The Spook-tacular Boo Bash is near…

Ghouls and Goblins, are you ready for some fun? We are! Come join us on Friday, October 21st from 6-8pm for our annual Boo Bash! There will be plenty of fun for all ages! We are still looking for some actors/actresses for the haunted courtyard, and if you have any fun Halloween props, we would love to borrow them for the evening! Parents, we would love for you to join in on the fun as well! This year, we have a special guest: the comedy magic of Danny Diamond!

Happy October!

We have lots of great things happening this month!

Everyone should have received information on our Fall Fundraiser, which is Lyman Orchard Pies and Otis Spunkmeyer cookie dough. Remember, all orders and money need to be sent in to the school by October 14th. An adult must be available to pick up products the afternoon of November 15th.

Parent Meeting Regarding School Closure: Monday, October 3rd at 6pm in the Library. We will keep you informed of the imminent school closure situation. We urge parents and caregivers to attend this informative meeting. The Ad Hoc School Closure Committee will meet the following night, and a decision as to what school to close may be made at this time.

A super THANK YOU to everyone who downloaded the Shoparoo app, and helped contribute to our 25,000+ points! This means that Spencer Elementary will receive $50! Do you Shoparoo? Email us at spencerschoolpta@gmail.com for information on this app, and how you can help. Don’t stop now, we’re just getting started!

Online Returning Student Registration

Are you wondering where the emergency contact form is this year?

Beginning this academic year, Middletown Public Schools changed to an online student registration system with InfoSnap. There are still many outstanding registrations that have not yet been completed for the 2016 – 2017 school year. We have heard that this online registration is not so easy to complete on a mobile device. It is imperative that this information be completed as soon as possible, as this information is utilized in the event of an emergency. As a reminder, if you do not have a computer, there is computer access at Russell Library. There is also a Chromebook available at Spencer School that can be used to set up your InfoSnap account. You would need to contact Tammi at the School Office to schedule a day and time in which to use the Chromebook. For more information and a FAQ about InfoSnap, please click here. Thank you.

Want to know more about Box Tops?

Did you know we have a special web page for Box Tops, where you can pledge Box Tops for Education for the school year? There’s also collection sheets that you can print out, tape the Box Tops to the collection sheet, and send in to school with your child! For more information and printable Box Top sheets, click here.

Proposed School Closure Information

Good afternoon, Spencer Parents!

We hope everyone had a fantastic week. As you may have heard, the Board of Education formed an Ad Hoc School Closure Advisory Committee in June of this year to determine which elementary school could be closed. The two schools that are being considered for closure are Macdonough Elementary in the North End, and our Spencer Elementary. The committee met for three sessions, most recently on Thursday, September 13th. Nothing is concrete at this point; we want to reiterate that at this point, there is no decision as to which school will be closed for the 2017 – 2018 academic year.

The PTA would like Spencer Parents to become more aware of the impending situation, as the Board of Education will be looking for advisement from the Committee as to what school should be closed very shortly. There is a 40-page slide show on the Board of Education website that can be viewed by clicking here. The Spencer PTA is planning to hold a one-hour informative meeting prior to the Advisory Committee’s next meeting. As soon as the date and time are confirmed, we will pass the information on to you. Please feel free to reach out to us at SpencerSchoolPTA@gmail.com. Thank you.

We’re just getting started…

Thank you to all of the parents, caregivers, teachers and staff who attended the first community PTA meeting on Wednesday, September 14th. We had a lot to talk about! If you need more information on what was discussed or want to talk to us, email us at SpencerSchoolPTA@gmail.com or head over to Facebook and leave a comment on our page. We have a lot ahead of us, and we look forward to working together to make this the best year ever for all of our children. The next meeting is Wednesday, October 12 at 6:30pm. We enjoyed meeting everyone tonight, and we look forward to seeing you again next month. Remember, bring a friend, and we’ll have a special raffle gift for the winner!

PTA Community Gathering

Just a reminder – the first monthly gathering will occur on Wednesday, September 14th at 6:30 pm in the Spencer Elementary library. We are looking forward to meeting all of the Spencer parents. Refreshments will be served. You DO NOT need to be a PTA member in order to attend any of our meetings. Also, we realize that your time is very important, which is why we try our best to keep gatherings as short as possible. Remember, you can always email us at SpencerSchoolPTA@gmail.com with any questions, comments or concerns. We’re looking forward to meeting you, and making the 2016-2017 academic year successful.

Information Being Sent Home

Good afternoon,

Please look for information in your child’s folder regarding the Spencer School PTA within the next few days. You will find a letter from the PTA, a Box Tops for Education Pokémon sheet, PTA membership form, and our volunteer interest form. Please fill out the PTA membership form and/or the volunteer interest form and send back to school with your child. Checks may be made payable to Spencer PTA.

We hope to send home a new Box Tops for Education sheet at the beginning of each month. Simply attach the Box Tops to the sheet, put your child’s name and their homeroom teacher on the sheet, and send in with your child. Have additional Box Tops? It’s up to you as to whether you want to send in now, and how often you want to send in. We also collect Campbell’s Labels for Education as well.

Any questions, please feel free to email the Spencer PTA at SpencerSchoolPTA@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
